MTV, otherwise known as Music Television was launched in the 80s. It's main purpose: to play music videos. What a concept, right?
These days, reality shows like
The Hills,
Parental Control,
Run's House and the newly launched
Is She Really Going Out With Him and 16 and Pregnant have taken over the air. With the success of The Real World, I think it was safe to say that we all saw reality TV movement coming.
Has anyone realized that since the passing of Michael Jackson that MTV has returned to its original roots and has been playing more and more music videos? Of course, they're Michael Jackson videos that are being played, but hey, we'll take what we can get. MTV is going to air the shows that people are watching these days. We are in a recession and MTV has to pay the bills, too.
It's unfortunate that with the decline of the music business that MTV hardly plays any music videos. Really the only ones that air on MTV's
Sucker Free are the heavy weights in the business like Kanye West, Beyonce, Lil Wayne or Jay-Z. It makes it harder for new artists to emerge and attain exposure because no videos are being played.
But for real, isn't it sad that it takes the death of The King of Pop for MTV to play some music videos?
